When thinking about creating a 3-D owl mosaic for the Garden show, using a gourd as my base seemed the natural choice. Grown in a garden, it's the perfect shape and substrate for a mosaic. I chose to cover her in flowers not only to tie into the theme of the exhibition, but also because flowers are among my favorite mosaic subjects. I love to combine nature and whimsy to create my pieces.
